A manufacturing company which is investing in new machinery to increase orders has shared its success story with Dudley South MP Chris Kelly during a site visit.
Bosses at the thriving laser cutting experts Midtherm Laser was approached by Mr Kelly after reading a recent article in the Express and Star which highlighted their recent success in winning new orders in what seems to be a very buoyant manufacturing sector.
The firm invested over £2.2 million last year on three high-tech laser machines and also expanded its facility by 8,000 sq ft. It recruited new shop floor, production, office and sales staff increasing the numbers employed from 32 to 40.
Midtherm bought council-owned land next to its 12,000 sq ft building last year for the extension. It has been further boosted by an influx of orders and last month invested a further £200,000 on a press brake machine which helps reduce the length of time it takes to provide laser cut and formed parts to a very diverse range of industries.
Midtherm sales manager David Wheatley said: " Chris Kelly contacted us after seeing an article published in the Express and Star about the £200,000 pressbrake and asked to visit us." He continued: "We gave him a tour and showed him what we do and how we do it. It was a very positive meeting, Mr Kelly seemed very impressed by our range of machinery and how busy we are."
Mr Kelly said: "I was very impressed with the extension. It has been built on land which was compulsory purchased for the Dudley Southern By-Pass. Since the completion of the By-Pass, the land has been empty and a bit of an eyesore. It is fantastic to see it now been used by the company. I was also very impressed by how optimistic the bosses are about their prospects and that they are employing four apprentices as I believe apprenticeships are very important."
The firm now looks forward to a very promising 2nd half of the year and expects to break all company records. The site which is now complete will be having an open day on Friday 6th September and their new facility will be officially opened by Mr Kelly.
