Laser cutting and profile bending experts Midtherm Laser Ltd, have continued to invest in new machinery with the addition of a Bystronic Expert 250 CNC hydraulic pressbrake machine. The Dudley based company who spent £2.2m in 2012 on 3 state of the art laser machines and an 8000 sqft extension have continued to enjoy an influx of orders from what seems to be a very buoyant manufacturing sector.

The £200k Expert pressbrake, which replaces a 6 year old Amada machine will enable the company to take a massive leap forward in supplying complicated folded components. Included in the package is a sophisticated 3D modelling software bundle which will enable the company to receive 3D CAD files which can then be flattened to provide developed 2D CAD drawings for the laser machines to cut. Once the profiles are cut, the software produces a bending program which is sent to the pressbrake via a server link ready for the parts to be formed. This sequence of events has a significant affect on reducing the amount of time it takes to program the parts, resulting in reduced lead times for their customers.

Dean Cockayne, Operations Director said "We are very excited about this new machine. Over the last few years we have seen an increase in demand for laser cut and formed parts. The Amada machine served the company well, however we have to make sure that we can be as versatile and competitive as possible. The expert 250 allows us to take on more complicated folding profiles with complete confidence. The new machine works a lot faster than the old one, which means that we can turn the jobs around faster".

The new 4mtr 250 tonne Bystronic machine has a variety of time saving features including "Fast Bend". Fast Bend works on a camera system positioned on the top tool rather than a conventional photo cell light barrier. This function dramatically speeds up the folding process resulting in more parts folded per hour without compromising the safety of the operator.

Midtherm Laser Ltd exhibited on 4th - 6th June at "Subcon 2013" held at the NEC Birmingham. David Wheatley, Sales Manager commented "We are thrilled that our expansion project is now complete and we can't wait to see our new machines thrive. Subcon 2013 gave us an excellent platform to showcase our new facility to potential and existing customers from all over the country. Over the last 12 months we have seen a boom in demand from the manufacturing sector especially in the Midlands area. Now with our full compliment of machinery we are in a position to target new business through out the whole of the UK".
